"Which music stores or violin shops in the area should I avoid?"

C'mon, you didn't think I would publish that information, did you? 

Let me say this. I get a lot of people in my shop who have purchased instruments elsewhere in Colorado or New Mexico, or from mail order companies, who in my opinion would have done much better to work with me. It is very common for people to pay high prices for instruments that are not very well constructed, and have substandard setup work on top of that. I have had more than one person come in with bows that they paid over a thousand dollars for that were actually warped. Do you want competance? Integrity? Good value? Anyone can hang out a shingle and sell bowed instruments because there is no certification process or licensure in this business.  Just sayin'.
