Instrument Monthly Rental Rates

For fractional instruments it is best if your teacher has already sized the student. Generally if someone is over 5'2" tall they are ready for a 4/4 instrument. A rental contract will be filled out when we meet for you to pick up the instrument. Out-of-state customers can request a rental contract using the link at the bottom of the page.

The outfit inlcudes instrument, case, bow, rosin, and cloth. It is usually recommended by the teacher to also purchase a shoulder rest (violin and viola), and we prefer the Viva rests. Better bows can be rented (bow included is a Glasser bow with horsehair.) Please call for more information about that.

All bowed instruments at Bernstein Violins are set up like any other instruments that we carry. Bridges, soundposts, nut, fingerboard, tailpiece, pegs, and strings are all fitted in our shop (we throw the poor quality factory fittings in the trash.) These rental instruments are not mail-order or music store junk! Considering the amount of labor and expense that goes into each instrument, these rental rates are very competitive.

*If you wish to purchase the instrument, half of your rental payments apply towards purchase, and the purchase price is NOT inflated as they are at most music stores.
*The rental requires a working Visa or MasterCard, which is charged every month.
*These instruments go out uninsured, and so you are fully responsible for it.

A full 100% rent-to-own program is available by doubling any of the rental rates shown above, meaning that by doubling the rate you can apply 100% of your rental payments towards purchase. If you purchase an instrument, later you can trade in the instrument for the next size up (less the cost of rehairing the bow, new strings, etc.)

Out of state customers can have a rental agreement emailed, faxed or mailed to you.
